Overview
Christine Dixie: To Be King, Personal Structures (Palazzo Bembo, Venice, Italy) The Coronet Theatre (London, UK)

South African artist Christine Dixie engages with Velasquez’s iconic 17th century painting Las Meninas through the lens of Foucault’s 1966 essay ‘Las Meninas’. Her radical re-visioning offers insights into contemporary social and psychological power structures. Dixie’s multi-media installation re-stages the painting in dialogue with the postcolonial space of the Eastern Cape landscape to question accepted conventions of power and perspective.
